I'm extremely glad to say that today's update's gone smoothly and that both the Events and FAQs modules are already available. If you already have an account, feel free to check them out right this moment. If you're still hesitant, sign up now and fiddle with them as much as you can... for free! They look pretty cool indeed if we may say so ourselves, however if you spot any funky stuff going on with any of the modules that we may have overlooked please let us know and we will get on top of it immediately. Can't wait anymore to see what the new modules look like? Check our demo sites to get an idea of what the modules look like in action... enjoy!

As some of you reported, things have been really quiet around here lately, mainly because the whole team has been working their fingers off coding, designing and waving their magic wand to bring you the next modules on the list. Well, I'm glad to say that we already have a launch date for both the Events and FAQs modules... so make sure to access your content managers as of next Wednesday (September 19) and give these modules a try! So as to keep the nuisance level to a minimum we will temporarily close access to Inserit's content manager on September 19 from 8am through 11am (GMT+1). I know, three hours is a heck of a time but we will most definitely be done way before then, it's just nicer to finish off sooner than expected than keep our users waiting around. We'll post a message once we are done publishing all updates. Together with the modules we will also be publishing nice updates to the existing modules so, for example, starting on Wednesday you'll be able to easily sort your albums in the Image Gallery module by just dragging and dropping them around. Stay tuned to new major updates!

As some of you already know, we were obliged to close down the Inserit forums yesterday as a temporary measure due to constant spam attacks till we find better and less time-consuming ways of fighting 'human bots' (i.e. people that take the necessary time to fill out any profile form appropriately and then start cramming the forums with all type of junk).
We are really sorry about any inconvenience this may cause but rest assured we will reopen them soon. In the meantime, any comments or questions about Inserit can be addressed to support[at]inserit[dot]com, drop us a line we'll be glad to help!

It's taken a little bit longer than we expected but the Image Gallery module is finally available... curious about what it looks like? Check out our demo site here. For those of you with already existing trial and subscription accounts, don't worry a bit -- just access your accounts as usual and you'll notice the Image Gallery module is already sitting on your left side menu... that's it, it's all yours to start playing with! Just a quick note on how to get started, just as you did with the News module you'll first need to integrate this new module into your web editor. To do so, click on " Integrate modules" on the left side menu and then pick your choice. Since you can totally customize your Image Gallery, it's up to you only to decide the level of sophistication you want to give it. It'd be a good idea to check the Image Gallery guide located under the Image Gallery section to get to know the lowdowns of each component. For those of you who don't have an account just yet, go ahead and sign up to try all our available modules 30 days for free, no credit card or billing info required! And don't forget to drop a vote on our poll (on the right hand side of the screen), we're constantly working on new modules and would certainly love to know which ones you'd like to get first!

Yay, we are all curling our toes with excitement! It finally looks like our Image Gallery module is undergoing its last tweaks and will be out in the open during this week. This is certainly the module that's been getting more votes on our blog poll and causing more expectation and I can safely say you won't be deceived. Here's some of the features it includes:
- Last Published Images. Let users check the most recent images with a single click.
- List of Tags. Assign tags to your images and make it easier for visitors to find what they came in looking for. - Tag Cloud. Yep, you read it right. What would an image gallery be without one of these? Visitors will be able to pick the tag they're interested in and view all its assigned images.
- RSS Feed. Let users grab your feed and stay tuned to recent publications. If you wanna know what the Image Gallery is all about check its full description here. We'll be adding this new module to all existing subscription and trial accounts so don't worry about a thing, as soon as we launch it you'll find it sitting on your content manager's left menu ready for you to start using it.

I'm extremely glad to say that after some serious testing and over-checking on our side, the first of many more to come Inserit modules is finally here. Ladies and gents... **drum roll background sound** let me introduce the gorgeous News module to all of you! Even though it's taken a bit longer than what we promised I can safely say that as of today it's already sitting on our home page waiting for you to check it out. Feel free to give it a try and grab your FREE 30-days trial now! Don't worry about a thing, no credit card or billing details required... if you don't like what you see, turn around and leave. The best thing that could happen to you is that we could actually make your life easier. Dare to give it a try?

All through this week we've been asked over and over again about the exact date we were finally launching our first modules (since, as some of you may recall I personally announced in our last post we were releasing the very first module of many to come this week)... we have no excuse to be running late but the fact of being a bunch of obsessive nitpickers. We do apologize about that. So I assumed to make it up to all of you I'd post some pics of the whole team working its bones off.
The good news is we do have an official launch date so be ready to start using the News module on Wednesday (June 20th, 2007)... yep, THIS Wednesday! Because of this we will have to close the access to Inserit's content manager from 1pm through 4pm (GMT+1). The rest of the web services will remain intact and so all your blog contents will be displayed as usual.
We are really sorry about the delay and to prove it here's some pics to have a laugh at.
Update: Inseritcentral is back open again. I'm happy to say everything's gone smoothly and we're now celebrating it with a nice ice cream :) Thanks all of you for bearing with us!

The first subscription modules, that is. I'm extremely glad to say that starting next week we'll be launching our first module of many to come -- 18 to be exact. The first one to pop its little head out will be the News module closely followed by the Image Gallery, Events and FAQs modules. The long wait is finally over and we must thank all of you who've been patient enough to stay around waiting for this announcement. If you're interested in getting to know how the whole thing is going to work, here's our deal: All users will be able to try all currently available modules free of charge for 30 days. No credit card or billing info required, we just want you to check us out and play around with the modules. If you like what you see and feel like Inserit can be of some help to you, you'll be able to sign up through a subscription form. If, on the other hand, you don't like us simply cancel your account. No hard feelings attached. For those of you that choose to subscribe, Inserit will be offering 3 different subscription plans according to the modules you're interested in. As of next week, we'll only have the first plan available but as we keep on launching new modules we'll open the rest of plans. All new upcoming modules will be added to existing accounts totally free of charge. We could have waited to have the first 9 modules included within the "Go Smurfie" plan ready before launching but since we've been getting a constant flow of emails requesting some of the first modules to come (mainly the News and Image Gallery modules) we opted to make them available on a "first finished, first served" basis. :) So stay tuned to new releases next week!

The last couple of weeks have been great for both Inserit and Inblogit, and it's all been because of you guys! So this post is for all of you who have taken a liking at us and have decided to help us spread the word... Last week we decided to submit Inserit to the Startup 2.0 Awards and even though we were not amongst the selected finalists it certainly helped us make ourselves known amongst the web design community boosting both visits and registrations. We want to thank all of you who have taken the time and effort to write a review, be it in Turkish, Spanish ( twice!), German, or Italian. Inblogit's been also posted on " 101 Essential Freelancing Resources" and " The freelancer's toolset: 100 Web Apps for Everything You Will Possibly Need", feel free to check them out! PS. We're possibly missing on some other reviews so we apologize in advance if we missed yours!

Due to some improvements to our dedicated servers we'll be temporarily closing www.inseritcentral.com tonight at around 7pm (GMT+1). We'll rush to get it over and done with in the minimum amount of time so as to squeeze any inconveniences this may cause.
Thanks for bearing with us during this time, to make it up to you I'll be posting a funny freeby tomorrow... gotta promise you won't laugh though!

This is just a quick note to let you know that to avoid unnecessary misunderstandings with existing folders you may have, we've renamed the bin folder you downloaded together with the rest of blog files during the configuration process. So, to make things easier, we've named it "inblogit". This change only affects users who downloaded the free blog module PHP files prior to today and now decide to use one of our templates. If that's you, don't worry, just rename the bin folder you downloaded during the configuration process to inblogit and you'll be all set. Drop me a line at support@inserit.com if you have any questions!

We've been working insanely these last weeks to release a whole bunch of nice blog functionalities -some of them you asked for and the rest are our share- and I can finally say that they're all out, happily sitting on your content manager and wriggling their little legs :) Here's a breakdown of them all: - Search-engine friendly URLs: we've received a lot (and by that we mean a lot) of emails asking for this one. Friendly URLS are clean, short and descriptive addresses instead of the commonly widespread gibberish of numbers and letters.
Wanna know how they can improve your blog? Well, to start with most search engines will not index any addresses containing question marks or any other characters of the kind, so friendly URLs allow for search engine indexability. They also promote usability and improve user experience since they're way easier to remember and to type.
To set friendly URLs for your blog simply access your content manager, go to General Settings and check the "Enable friendly URLs" box.
Then all that's left to do is click on the "Download friendly URLs file" and publish this file to your site's root.
- RSS improvements: you can now include a customized title, description and image for your blog to be displayed via RSS. To do so, access the content manager, go to General Settings and fill out the fields under the "RSS Configuration" section.
- Lightbox effect for images: images with a lightbox effect overlay the current page when clicked on while displaying a shadowy effect. By placing the pointer over the image readers can browse the images gallery-like in full view. To set a lightbox effect, access your content manager, go to General Settings and check the "Enable lightbox for images" box. That simple!
- General blog pimping: we gave the content manager a general face lift by refining some of the existing features. But I'd rather not ramble on about it and have you check it out for yourself! *wink wink*
We'll be adding some other new stuff but for now I think we can concentrate hardly on getting some full modules ready to launch. So come on, drop us a vote on our roadmap and tell us which modules you'd like to see first ... be nice, I just wrote this wrist-breaking post for you! :)
Posted in: general | Thursday, March 29, 2007 8:57 AM
This is a short message to let you all know that we'll be temporarily restricting access to the content manager area (www.inseritcentral.com) today to upgrade it with a bunch of nice features. Don't worry, the closure won't last more than an hour.
Wait for my post later on today to get to know all the new features but as a sweet titbit ... do the words friendly URLs and lightbox effect sound familiar to you? :)
I'll keep you updated!

We've been working hard these last weeks to
launch some cool improvements relating our free blog module and so I'm extremely
proud to inform you that we'll be releasing them today.
As cool as that is I'm afraid that implies that all access to the content manager will be temporarily closed till we're done implementing the changes. Please bear with us, we promise you won't regret it!
So what's this whole thing about? Well, we've improved the blog configuration process hopefully making it even more intuitive than before.
Next time you access your account you'll notice
some variations relating the side menu. We've improved the content manager's functionality by adding a
templates section from where you'll be able to give a new look to your template
as well as a direct link to view your blog. There's some more new stuff but I'd
rather you checked it out for yourself.
Though our moms constantly remind us how perfect
we are we know that's (partially) not true so any comments/suggestions are more
than welcome. Please report any bug you encounter so we can smash its ugly and
hairy rear.
And now that you're at it, drop a vote on our roadmap poll!
Posted in: general, miscellaneous | Monday, March 12, 2007 7:18 PM
It's been a while since our last post and as a cure for our guilty souls we thought it'd be a cool idea if our users could get to know what's going on on our end (or mainly on our screens).
So we pulled out this awesome roadmap (*wink wink*) with all the tasks we're currently involved in. If you really really wanna make us happy please check it out (it's on the right side menu) and vote on the most important task/s for you... we'll mail you a pack of good vibs over to your place free of charge!
After all, we're working our bones off so that you get the 'bestest' features in the neighborhood.... did that make you feel bad enough to drop us a vote? Nah? Dang...
PS. Needless to say, the poll's been courtesy of polldaddy

This message is to let you all know that due to maintenance services of our servers we won't be able to offer any trial temporary addresses between 11.00 pm on 2/08/07 and 1.00 am on 02/09/07 (GMT+1).
Please note that no other services will be affected. We're sorry about this and would like to thank you all for bearing with us for this couple of hours.

That's right. This post is to let you all know we've decided to increase the maximum image storage space from 1 Mb up to 20 Mb. So go ahead, upload all the pics you want... we hope that a 20 Mb storage space will make things better. Oh, and once you've got your blog all set up don't forget to post it on our forum's bragging area!

We're more
than happy about the nice feedback we keep getting relating the 'Top 100 links for web designers' page we posted a
while ago.
Needless to say, thanks to all of you who dropped us a line
suggesting some other cool sites. We went through all of them and chose the
ones we thought more useful.
We've finally updated the page and added some of your suggestions as well as
some other nice links we've encountered along the way. So go ahead, check them
out and don't forget to post a comment... de-lurking time's officially over!

And yet another bug fixed... up until today pages in which the Inserit components had been deleted but that still kept the necessary reference lines used to send petitions every time the page was loaded. That obviously made no sense since there was "nothing to be called". We just got that issue straightened out it so that only those pages with Inserit components make the necessary petitions thus improving the site's performance. If this may be your case and want to profit from these changes, simply access your account, click on Downloads on the left-side menu and then on Download Inserit. Once you're done publish it through your FTP client and you'll be all set to go!

Some of you reported not being able to display Eastern characters in your blogs -- we finally nailed the source of all problems. Here it is:
Even though all of our pages include the following code to ensure all Eastern characters as well as accents are correctly displayed
< meta content="text/html; charset=utf-8" http-equiv="Content-Type" / >
it turns out some servers ignore this line and so all Eastern characters and accents look messed up. If this is your case, all you have to do is simply include the folowing line at the top of the page
< ?php header('Content-Type: text/html; charset=utf-8'); ?>
Thanks to all of you who pointed out this problem and please let us know how it worked out!
Posted in: forum, general | Wednesday, January 03, 2007 1:39 PM
Really. We just opened a brand new forum where all of you will be able to post and chat about anything relating Inserit. Got questions? Feedback? Want to share some tips and tricks with other fellow members? This is the place to do it! Faithful to our personality, we made it extremely intuitive and transparent. Can't stand it anymore and want to check it out? Click here. Special attention needs to be paid to our Bragging area, where you can post all your sites with Inserit components and compete with the rest of the community for excepcional bragging rights. Get and give away votes to other Inserit users, come on and give it a go now! (you know you want to). Let the competition begin...
Posted in: blog module, general, launch | Tuesday, January 02, 2007 11:26 AM
As some of you may have noticed, we had to close temporarily both our registration page and blog addresses. This was due to some major reasons, mainly: - Server migration: Due to the high number of registered users and visitors we were getting, we thought it was about time to migrate to a dedicated, more powerful, ultimate state-of-the-art drop-dead server... and so we did.
- New release of our forever-free Blog module: Yes, you read it right. We've been working our bones off to create an extremely intuitive blog module while keeping a nice look and feel to it. If you can't stand it anymore, click here to sign up and start using it right away. Else, check its super cool features here. Amongst others, you'll be able to moderate comments, upload images together with your posts, set an RSS feed, arrange your posts into monthly archives... plus many other nice features.
Other minor reasons that have made the whole process a little bit slower than it should have include an eggnog-induced mind blockage of our programmers as well as a temporary state of doziness of our web designers due to an overstuffing of Christmas cookies. We are terribly sorry about the latter. Thanks to all of you for bearing with us and HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Posted in: general, miscellaneous, cms | Wednesday, November 29, 2006 1:25 PM
We know there's some of you still confused about all the CMS babble spreading around the web, so we thought it'd be a good idea to put together the top 10 pros and cons web designers should take into consideration when pondering on whether or not using a CMS app.
You can pretty much find "drop-dead-amazingly-easy-to-use" CMS apps anywhere, they're actually sprouting like mushrooms on wet grass. So, just in case you still haven't hopped into the wave and are wondering whether you should surf these waters, stay tuned... here's a list of things to keep in mind.
Oh, and by the way, CMS stands for Content Management System... just so you know. :)
PROS
:
-
Complete control over contents. Yep, this is one of the best features. Your clients get to update their own dynamic contents themselves. No programming skills required... you won't be getting any more annoying phone calls asking for site content updates on your end.
-
Easy integration of new functionalities. Since CMS tend to be divided into modules or plug-ins, adapting it to your own needs is extremely easy.
-
Separation between site content and layout. Any changes that need to be done to a site's layout will have no aftermath effects on its contents. It's all about making things easier.
-
Cheap. Or so it seems. You'll find plenty of 100% free open source code to work with around the web though we'd recommend watching out on these apps since they may backfire on tech support issues.
So right 'till this point you're probably wondering where on earth has this gift from heaven been all this time, huh? Well, it's not that much a bed of roses... here's the dark side to it:
CONS
:
-
Limited flexibility when designing. Since CMS work with templates, you'll find yourself having to work around some annoying layout restrictions.
-
Programming skills. Probably the most irritating feature of them all - unless of course you're a techie and enjoy dealing with code. You'll need some more programming knowledge than just bare HTML if you want to edit the default template.
-
Learning curve. You're gonna need some time to digest all the ups and downs of CMS implementation. Though useful, it takes a fair amount of time getting familiar with these type of apps.
-
Code tags. They can get to be a pain in the neck since they're all mixed with the site's layout. Restoring one of this little devils when deleted by mistake is a time-consuming process, especially of you're not a code monkey.
-
Lack of professional tech support. Don't get the wrong idea... free CMS apps tend to have some type of support community or forum you can turn to when in doubt but they rarely ever have a full-time professional to cover users questions.
-
Keeping up with updates. While new and better versions come out you'll constantly have to be on the lookout for the latest updates... or pay someone else to do it and install them for you.
While all the pros were indeed a big step forward, the list of cons kept nudging us. So we decided to start scratching our own itch. Not to sound commercial here, but Inserit does sway around CMS countereffects while keeping all the good stuff.
Since it worked for us we wanted everybody to give it a try see if it worked for them too - so far we've been getting really good feedback which brought about some nice improvements to the original version. Wanna
try our free version
?... fine by us and don't forget to tell us what you think :D

Some of you reported getting the following error while configuring Inserit: Error: can't load any wrapper for existing math libraries After having a deep look into it and a couple of strong espressos we've got it all figured it out, so no worries... you can now access Inserit management panel and download the Inserit files without having to go through the whole configuration process again. (Not that it takes that much anyway since the whole process it's just 4 steps but we figured it'd be easier to just offer you the files separately.) So anyway, whenever you're in, click on the Downloads section on the right side menu, choose Download Inserit and publish the files through your FTP server... you'll be ready to roll! For those of you keen on techie details, here they are: we've made the configuration process no longer dependant on math libraries -thus increasing general speed substantially- so that now PHP users don't need to use any extra extension to control large integers. Again, thanks a lot for all your feedback and nice comments... they sure are a nice pump of energy!
Posted in: general, feature requests | Wednesday, November 15, 2006 2:10 PM
The sky's the limit, they say. Well then... if that's certainly so, who are we to block the highway to heaven?
Some of you have asked us to stretch out the 15 articles limit we
set up right before launching. We originally thought setting up a range
of 15 articles to display on a site through our beta version would be
enough... and we're jolly happy we were wrong!
That just proves all our effort and hopes seem to have been worthly
invested to a good end. So, anyway, let me get to the point here: we
have removed the original publishing constraints, you're all free to
create as many articles as you want -- hop into the car, the highway's
all yours!
Posted in: general, bug smashing | Monday, November 13, 2006 2:14 PM
After some double espressos to keep us up through the night, it looks like we've finally been able to fix a bug some of you encountered when trying to use Inserit in PHP pages. This one has had a happy ending (not for the bug, anyway), it turned out to be a buffer error that we have flicked off the face of Earth on our new Inserit download version 2.0.1. This is the error message some of you reported: Fatal error: session_start() : Cannot use output buffering in output buffering display handlers in .../bin/InseritBasePage.php on line 803 If this is your case, please go through the configuration process again and download the new 2.0.1 version in step 2. We have also included a shortcut in the management panel under the Downloads section through which you will be able to download the new version in a blink without having to go through the whole configuration process again (don't forget to publish it via FTP though). Those of you currently using ASP.NET Windows servers or our trial web addresses... you don't need to move a finger!
Posted in: general, feature requests | Tuesday, November 07, 2006 2:16 PM
Since we first released our free beta version we have been getting
many mails, some of them providing really good feedback... so to all of
you who cared enough to drop us a line and share your views, a big and
warm thank you!
We are not oblivious to the fact that there is still a long way to
go and so we're currently working into giving it a nicer look and feel.
So far, here's our first step:
From now on, it doesn't really matter whether you already have a web
address or if you're still thinking about getting one... you'll be able
to try Inserit whatsoever. We thought it simply wasn't fair and so we
decided to provide free trial web addresses to all of you interested in
giving it a try. Just like Christmas. So go ahead, mess around and
don't forget to tell us what you think!

If you're part of the web-standards-only congregation, it seems like
it's time to track back your steps and start watching your back... again.
The IE7 team has posted a call to action
for all web designers to be on the lookout for new hacks sprouting from
their once web-compliant pages. Looks like some of the CSS fixes they
have made are causing pages under the strict doctype to collapse.
That is sure to put the 'forward-compatibility argument' at stake
once again -- you know, the belief that if you build your sites
according to current web standards, there'll be no need to change or
update them in a long, long time. But then what's the point of building
web-compliant sites if, in order to do so, many layouts will require
the use of hacks relying on IE flaws?
The debate is sure open between those 'sticking to the rules' and
those choosing reality over theory. So... go ahead, which type are you?

Funny how some apparently innocent things can influence and cause a -sometimes not so innocent- reaction on other people. We guess that's
the price of learning... and also the price of not having installed an
anti-spam device in the first place.
Some weeks ago we started advertising on some major sites and,
warned as we were, it surprised us nonetheless the effect one of our
ads had. It is an always striking experience realizing how much time
some people have on their hands. Here are some ideas to put it to good
use: help your grandma, adopt a kitten, send us some money via paypal...
but don't try to make us feel guilty about what we do. Alright, so we
created an app that lets web designers develop their own projects
without any code. We admit it. We've sinned. But then we also believe
